Research and Resources
Luckily, we don't have to reinvent the wheel in character education because so many educators have gone before us who have done research in the field to find out what really works. A wealth of quality information exists, and we can find studies that will help to guide us on our journeys. Whether our concern is about developing positive behavior in our students, changing school culture, addressing bullying and teasing, instilling empathy for those who are different, or guiding students to tackle social injustices, some intuitive educator has already scoped the terrain and blazed the trail and can tell us WHAT worked and HOW it worked.
In this digital age, we often long to hear the sound of a human voice when we have problems. Remember that the Center for Social and Character Development at Rutgers University is a friendly voice that will help you over the hurdles. Don't forget to call on us.
