Our History:

CSCD@RU was started by the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) in 2002 under the provisions of a Partnerships in Character Education grant from the U.S. Department of Education under the No Child Left Behind Act. The Center was located at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and found a welcoming home in the Center for Applied Psychology within the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. We have also received support from the New Jersey Department of State's Learn and Serve America program. CSCD@RU collaborated successfully with the NJDOE to receive a second federal Partnerships grant in 2006, under which it is currently operating.

We know that the most powerful growth and changes in people's lives occur through relationships. CSCD@Rutgers promotes positive growth among adults and children by providing program opportunities and collaborative learning structures that facilitate the creation of caring schools in which all members of the school community contribute to the academic, social, and civic skills of students.
