Project Harmony

In an effort to promote ethical, academic, and social development among their ethnically diverse student population, Livingston Park Elementary implemented Project Harmony. Staff members were given 12 professional development hours to revise the curriculum to focus more on ethical issues such as compassion, tolerance, human worth, responsibility, citizenship, justice, truth, and integrity. Project Harmony Committee members came up with six units of study: Self-Esteem, Peacemakers, Conflict Resolution, Earth Awareness, World Families, and No Bullies Allowed. Through their studies, students learn the importance of all voices and to take responsibility for their actions as they build their self esteem. Project Harmony also teaches better peacemaking, listening, and self-expression skills, promoting an atmosphere of equality and understanding. In keeping with its mission and purpose, the school puts democracy into action as a place where every voice is heard.
