The Dance II class is preparing a school assembly program to promote the art of dance during National Dance Week. The program will inform the audience of the different reasons people dance, the various forms of dance, and key figures and events throughout history through dance performances and presentations. The goal of the project is to enhance the cultural and aesthetic appreciation of the school community by providing the students with the historical background and demonstration of the dance as an art form.

Project Description:
The Dance II class is preparing a school assembly program to promote the art of dance during National Dance Week. The program will inform the audience of the different reasons people dance, the various forms of dance, and key figures and events throughout history through dance performances and presentations. The goal of the project is to enhance the cultural and aesthetic appreciation of the school community by providing the students with the historical background and demonstration of the dance as an art form. Performing Arts: During the research process, students will understand the historical, societal, and multicultural aspects and implications of dance and how the arts and cultures influence each other. Students are also enhancing their perceptual, physical, and technical skills and learning that pertinent techniques and technologies apply to the successful completion of the tasks Comprehensive Health & PE: Students develop motor skills and training while demonstrating leadership skills in the process. Language Arts Literacy: Students write a report, listen to each other and evaluate the performance. Consumer, Family & Life Skills: Students participate in career skills training. They also demonstrate critical thinking, self-management, problem-solving and cooperative goal-setting. |

Educational Strategies:
Performance-based Education Students must employ real-life skills in planning and implementing the program. Cooperative Learning Students work collaboratively to achieve their goals.
Interdisciplinary Approach: Various disciplines involved in the process. Personal Growth Outcomes: Participants develop self-esteem from successfully implementing all stages of the project. They also demonstrate responsibility. The positive interaction with the audience spurs a desire to help others. Students also develop an appreciation for other cultures & their contributions to the dance. |

Celebration: Bagel Breakfast to celebrate the performance. Recognition: Media coverage. Certificates given to participants. Key Findings:
One of the valuable lessons that this project is providing the students is that as they conduct their research and plan their assembly program, they are encountering various dance related career paths outside of the performance area. |
Community Involvement:
Students and teachers from the school community will be invited to the assembly in an effort to bring the dance to a broader population. Students have also involved artist from the community by inviting a guest artist to perform in the assembly program. Volunteer Involvement: Local Artist Reflection Activities: Audience participation session at conclusion of program centers on what has been learned by performers and recipients. Participants reflect on what the audience says.Discussion of strengths and weaknesses of the program in order to make improvements for the future. Means of Assessment:
