Project Description:
Students in Honors French Civilization and AP French Literature classes will create and illustrate their own fairytales books based on the many stories and poetries that they read and have been studying for the past years. They will share them with a group of middle school French students while they visit the high school. Target Audience: 7th and 8th grade students taking French classes in Teaneck Middle Schools Timeline: About six weeks Project Scheduling:

Colored paper (pastels) 8 ½” x 11” and cardstock for craft projects, Art supplies, computers and glue guns, transportation Academic Focus:
The Arts (Visual and Performing) Students use their writing skills to create their own stories in French and will practice their performance skills while reading to younger students. Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Students will show leadership skills by setting an example for and holding the attention of younger students Language Arts Literacy Students will read fairytales and poetries and write their own fairytales. They will practice reading their stories to their classmates and younger students and will use computers to aid in creating their stories. Students will use computers to aide in creating their story books Social Studies Students can create stories that use modern social situations to explain old morals or new life lessons. World Language Students create stories in French and can base their new stories around traditional French Fairytales Technology Students can use computers to create their books Consumer, Family & Life Skills Students will use a variety of employable skills such as public speaking, interpersonal communication, and self-management to monitor their progress, create their stories, and present them to younger students. Students will also display strong character and ethics by integrating morals into their fairytales. |

Educational Strategies:
Performance-based Education Students will be evaluated on the effectiveness of their storytelling and their behavior as role models in front of younger students. Cooperative Learning High school students will use peer editing sessions to improve their stories and will together to create an exciting trip for the middle school students. Interdisciplinary Approach Students will integrate language arts and foreign language skills to create grammatically correct and entertaining stories in French. They will also integrate core ethical values into their fairytales. Personal Growth Outcomes:
Students will demonstrate integrity using the morals in their stories. Students will have to cooperate in order to create the best presentation possible for younger students. Students will show respect to their fellow students as well as to younger students. Students will need self-discipline to complete the project properly on time and some will need courage in order to perform in front of a group. |

Celebration:
Middle-school students will create thank you cards for the high school students after their trip (in French, of course!) Pizza party for students upon returning from middle school presentations. Recognition:
An article about the students’ project will be placed in the local newspapers and also posted on the high school, middle-school and district websites. It will part of a service-learning presentation for the Board of Education Key Findings:

Parents will be asked to encourage and support students’ efforts. Project will be included in a service-learning presentation for the PTO. Reflection Activities: (Link with core ethical values)
Students will have a class discussion about teaching and what it feels like to be a role model. Afterwards they will complete an assignment about how important it is to abide by the morals they wrote in their fairytales. Means of Assessment:
