Bedwell Elementary School: New Jersey Schools of Character

“Treat others the way you want to be treated” cheers Sofia. “Always be proud of who you are,” announces Elise. These two fourth graders exemplify good character intheir words and actions. Since Kindergarten, strong moral values were instilled in them and their classmates, thanks to Bedwell’s Character Education initiative. The school's district’s mission is “to ensure that each student discovers the power of his or her unique abilities as a socially responsible citizen of the world.” The goal is to provide children with a strong foundation for becoming ethical, responsible and caring people. Whether students discuss character in class, or initiate innovative, independent, community service, it is evident that character lives at Bedwell. For nearly 10 years, Bedwell has been a home for character-building, a place where students know they are welcomed with a warm “hello” and one simple idea: “Be A Good Neighbor” permeates every school day.
“It’s great to have so many people dedicated to developing our children. This 360 degree approach-school, home, community- makes it easier on parents.” Mrs. Sharon Warren, Bedwell Parent
