2010 New Jersey Schools of Character

Eldridge Park Elementary School: New Jersey Schools of Character

Eldridge Park School, a place where futures
begin, is dedicated to creating a successful,
caring learning environment for their students.
They aim to help students develop a strong
sense of self, to teach students to make smart, kind choices, and to help students develop positive social/emotional skills. The uniqueness of their program lies in the fact that it is an eclectic “Homegrown” program that incorporates such research based programs as Second Step and Responsive Classroom with school-based programs such as Character Trait of the Month, Social Stars, All School Meetings, Art Assistants/Peer Leaders, and service projects.  The foundation of Eldridge Park’s program is its seven “Pillars of Character”, Respect, Responsibility, Perseverance,  Citizenship, Trustworthiness, Fairness, and Caring which are visible and practiced throughout the school. Character education is fully alive at E.P.S. and is integrated into all classroom and school activities.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing your child come home from school and talk about the various character traits they learn and practice like being responsible and respectful toward other students …The children are developing their social skills and continue to make smart, caring choices not only at school, but they bring their lessons home, and treat their parents and siblings with the same respect.”
