2010 New Jersey Schools of Character
James H. Johnson Elementary School: New Jersey School of Character
James H. Johnson Elementary School has grown its character education program over the past several years. They have continued to expand their Community of Learners as they work to become a true Professional Ethical Learning Community. A major goal of their character education program is to facilitate the integration of the Lions Quest Curriculum into all aspects of school life and to develop each individual’s capacity for caring. Our district goals of Respect, Responsibility, and Citizenship are echoed in all that we do, from lessons to assemblies, from lining up in the morning to following dismissal procedures. Johnson School has made a distinct effort to increase opportunities for genuine Service Learning at the elementary level. Student Service Learning, coupled with the excellent role modeling provided by our faculty, staff, and parent volunteers, have brought us closer to our goal of increasing students’ commitment to Civic Involvement.
“ …Our Character Education program is helping our students develop the confidence to be proud of themselves – they are becoming great leaders and role models. “ - Mrs. Afsaneh Mojibian, parent
