Liberty Corner School
Incorporating the tenets of character education into daily instruction is a major focus at Liberty Corner School. Literature infusion encourages students to incorporate qualities of character into their daily lives by encouraging them to become positive contributors to society. The “One Book” Book Club” (1BBC) is an initiative that supports the school’s mission. A picture book is selected each month that depicts strong character messages. A copy of each title is purchased for each class, and each book is delivered with a packet of suggested follow-up activities for teachers. Activities include reading the book aloud and engaging students in writing/response activities such as journal reflections, mural creations, door decorations, bulletin board displays or intra- or inter-grade level activities. The purpose of 1BBC is to provide common reading and response experiences among students. Once discussed, the book becomes part of an ever-expanding character education classroom library. A strong sense of community and caring among students develops as children engage in the activities.
