First Day Celebration

Woodcrest Elementary School held its First Day Celebration on September 2, 2006 to welcome students, staff, families, and community members and to begin promoting student success and achievement. The Woodcrest First Day Committee based the day’s events on materials from the First Day Foundation personalized with the community’s climate and culture in mind. Woodcrest planned activities addressing diversity, character education, safety, literacy, and community involvement. The day began with reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and Woodcrest School Pledge to foster citizenship, respect, responsibility, and school pride. Then, the mayor of Cherry Hill and superintendent addressed students and their families, encouraging students. Finally, the principal reminded students of the Character Education School Motto, Thoughts become words, words become actions, actions become character, and character is everything. After the celebration all students and staff were surveyed to provide feedback. The entire school community looks forward to the rejuvenation of character and school culture that Woodcrest Elementary School’s First Day Celebration imparts.
