Multicultural Festival

The Meadowbrook Multicultural Festival is a day in which students are transported to different countries around the globe as they tour their school. Two months of preparation, including ongoing support at faculty meetings and grade-level planning sessions, brings staff, students, and parent volunteers together to focus on various countries. Volunteers from a variety of countries present information about their cultures to begin the growth of multicultural awareness among participants. Students learn about the nation assigned to their classroom through art, music, literature, and physical movements with their special area teachers, and create multi-media presentations to highlight new knowledge about their assigned corner of the world. Inspired by CEP’s Eleven Principles, Meadowbrook Multicultural Festival is a fun way to concentrate on character education as global understanding is explored school-wide. Engaging students throughout the process helps them to understand and appreciate cultural universals while recognizing the accomplishments of diverse groups. The students finish with a deeper understanding of how different groups are similar instead of focusing on the differences that exist.
