PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
| "The core mission OF the New Jersey Commission ON Holocaust Education IS TO promote Holocaust/genocide education IN the state OF New Jersey. The goals, objectives AND standards OF the mandate ARE consistent WITH the outcomes OF CHARACTER education. The Commission IS prepared TO provide IN-service education FOR staff IN the areas OF prejudice reduction, multi-cultural education, CURRENT issues OF genocide AND the Holocaust. Within each OF these studies positive traits OF good CHARACTER ARE presented. The Commission provides consultants FOR staff training AND FOR student programs. The student programs may include puppet shows, dramatic presentations, student awareness activities AND/OR total school involvement programs. Programs FOR students AND/OR staff ARE designed TO meet the individual needs OF the school OR district. This IS accomplished by pre-meetings WITH school personnel AND representatives OF the Commission. Activities AT the elementary LEVEL ARE geared TO CHARACTER education AND the positive traits that will eliminate potential genocide. The middle grades deal WITH prejudice reduction AND the impact OF the bystander. AT the high school LEVEL, while content IS emphasized, a great deal OF the material IS RELATIVE TO moral dilemmas such AS censorship, FIRST ammendment, forgiveness AND responsibility. The special programs that ARE available include the puppet show about the town that fought hate FOR PRIMARY students, a play about a town that demonstrated courage AND a play about the life OF a women IN a Nazi concentration camp. Many films, tapes AND other AV materials ARE available FOR the instruction." |
